Thomas "Tom" Albert Smith

Tom retired from the Lake County Forest Preserve District, Natural Resources Department where he worked for 34 years. He trained and supervised 2,300 Stewardship Volunteers.  These Volunteers donate over 16,000 hours of their time to conservation land management work and wildlife monitoring.

Tom volunteers for the Steward for Dead Dog Creek Nature Preserve in Winthrop Harbor.

Tom taught wildlife art and watercolor classes at Harper College and watercolor workshops for the Chicago Botanic Garden. The Chicago Historical Society has accepted 20,000 of his photographs for their permanent collection. The photographs are part of a 20 year photo documentary Tom did on the Old Maxwell Street Market in Chicago. Tom is also a card carrying member of the Brothertown-Mohican Indian Nation.
