Tom Smith

Tom now burns prairies, not high schools. He is currently employed at the Lake County Forest Preserve District, Natural Resources Department where he trains and supervises 2,300 Stewardship Volunteers each year. These Volunteers donate over 16,000 hours of their time to conservation land management work and wildlife monitoring.

Tom  lives in Winthrop Harbor, IL and has been employed as a staff artist at the Adler Planetarium and Chicago Academy of Sciences. He taught wildlife art and watercolor classes at Harper College and watercolor workshops for the Chicago Botanic Garden.  Most recently, The Chicago Historical Society has accepted 20,000 of his photographs for their permanent collection. The photographs are part of a 20 year photo documentary Tom did on the Old Maxwell Street Market in Chicago. Tom is also a card carrying member of the Brothertown-Mohican Indian Nation.
